Pharmacies & Medical Supplies

Pharmacies and medical supply stores are vital resources; everyone should have access to the medications and equipment they need for their health and well-being.

Here in San Miguel de Allende we have an abundance of pharmacies! They provide prescription medications, over-the-counter remedies, bandages, mobility aids, and more.  Below we provide information about pharmacies that have long hours, make home deliveries, and offer discounts.

When you go to a pharmacy bring your passport or your residency card so they can copy your ID info for their records. Do this every 2 months or so. (It’s also good idea to bring your senior discount (INAPAM) card, if you have one, to the pharmacy.

You should know that pharmacists are available to offer excellent advice and guidance. Many pharmacies have a “consultorio” right next door where you can speak with a doctor for a reasonable fee. (If you don’t speak Spanish, it’s a good idea to bring a friend who does, or use Chat GPT or Google Translate.)

In Mexico you’ll find many medicines are available over the counter, even those that may require an Rx in your home country.  The exception: antibiotics and controlled substances like diazepam, alprazolam, and others. To be safe, ask for professional medical advice when seeking medicines of any kind.
